Phenotypic plasticity is the environmental modification of genotypic expression
and an important means by which individual plants respond to environmental heterogeneity.
The study of phenotypic plasticity in the genus Adenophora, which is very complicated taxo nomically because of great morphological variation, proves to be helpful in both investigating
the phenotypic variation so as to evaluate potential taxonomic value of their characters and
providing important sources of information on the variation, adaptation and evolution of the
genus. Twenty-three populations representing all the six species in Adenophora potaninii
complex were transplanted into the garden. Of them six populations were selected for study ing their performance in the field and in the garden, in addition to cultivation experiment
under different treatments. The results show that there exists considerable developmental
plasticity in some leaf, floral and capsule characters. In particular, the leaf shape and length
of calyx lobe display significant developmental variation with the maximum being three times
as great as the minimum, which is noteworthy because they were previously considered as
diagnostic. The characters of root, caudex, stem and inflorescence are found to be very
plastic, especially the root diameter, the number of stems, stem height and inflorescence
length with great environmental plasticity. In addition, the populations from different habi tats show distinct amounts of plasticity. On the contrary, the characters of leaf, floral, cap sule and seed are less influenced by environments. It seems that the considerable variation in
the characters of leaf is attributed mainly to genetic differences. Finally, the phenotypic

Suaeda physophora was distributed on the saline soil with a salt contents 3.0%~ 6.0% in the surface layer (0420 cm underground). The plant height was 45~60 cm and the average length of the one-year twig was 12 cm. The succulent leave was strip shaped. The well developed lateral roots was distributed in the deeper soil (EOb 60 cra) with decreased salt contents and increased water content. The multiregression model for individual plant's aboveground biomass was: Y = 312. 00 + 3.44X1 + 4. 85X2 - 2.16X3 (Xl, length; X2, width: X3, height). The contents of Na, S and K in leave of S. physophora were very high. That of Na was 91255 μg · g-1. The element contents varied in the different parts of plant. K, Na, Mg, S and P contents were the highest respectively in the leaf and ear of flower, but they were the lowest in the old twig. Total salt content of water extracts from tender twig and leaf was 23.17%, being more than in ear of flower and old twig. The element and salt contents varied in different seasons of plant growth. The S. physophora community was a formation on the succulent halophytic dwarf sub-shrub desert. Nine associations were recorded at this area. The coverage of community was 6 % ~25 %. 相似文献

Cytological, morphological, and geographical studies of Epilobium angustifolium
in China reveal two partly distinct, partly overlapping entities that are best treated as subspecies. The diploid (n=18) subsp. angustifolium has smaller, triporate pollen grains, typically
glabrous stems and leaves, and smaller leaves and flowers, and occurs in colder, more northern
areas, and at higher elevations in overlap zones. The tetraploid (n=36) subsp. circumvagum has larger pollen with a mixture of quadriporate pollen grains, pubescent stems and
leaves, and larger leaves and flowers, and occurs in warmer parts of southern China and at

The present paper is a report on combined cytological and taxonomical studies
of Polygonatum odoratum and P. cyrtonema. Based on the extensive field observation and
mass collection for some years, the authors made a detailed comparison of the variation pattern of morphology、cytology as well as geographic distribution between forms
of P. odoratum and P. cyrtonema. The results show that: Form I: Stem angular, leaves
elliptic, peduncles with one, rarely two flowers, perianth 1.7-2.0 cm long, stamens adnate to
perianth in the middle part or a little lower. The karyotype formula is 2n=20=12m+8sm
(2SAT); Form II: Stem angular, leaves narrow-oblong, peduncles with 2-3 flowers,
perianth 2.8-3.2 cm long, the position of stamens on perianth is above the middle part.
It has the karyotype 2n=20=8m+1osm(4SAT)+2st; Form III: Stem terete, leaves
oblong-lanceolate, peduncles with 3- 10 flowers, perianth 1.5- 2.0cmlong, stamens are
adnate to perianth also above the middle part. In this form, two kinds of karyotypes are
found: 2n = 22 = 6m+8sm+8st and 2n = 20 = 4m+6sm (2SAT) +10st; Form IV: Stem terete,
leaves elliptic, peduncles with 1-4 flowers, perianth 2.3-2.8 cmlong, stamens adnate to
perianth above the middle part. The karyotype formulae are 2n = 20 = 4m+14sm (2SAT)+2st
and 2n = 20 = 10m+10sm (2SAT); Form V: Stem terete, leaves oblong-lanceolate, peduncles
with 3-5 flowers, perianth less than 2.0cm long, stamens adnate to perianth above the middle part. It is of the karyotype 2n=22=4m+8sm(2SAT) +10st. It is pointed out that
the P. odoratum collected from the Qinling Range may be a hybrid or an intermediate in the
evolutionary process from P. odoratum to P. cyrtonema. The differences between the different forms of P. cyrtonema are obvious and stable, and are probably derived from the
chromosomal variation. The different forms of P. cyrtonema may have evolvedfrom P. odoratum along different courses. 相似文献
